President Obama’s Immigration Actions

On Thursday, President Obama delivered his speech on Immigration. He announced the following actions to be eligible to stay in the country.
– Living in the United States for more than five years
– Have children who are American citizens or legal residents
– If you register, pass a criminal background check
– Willing to pay a fair share of taxes
With those requirements, undocumented immigrants can apply to stay in the country temporarily. These actions don’t apply to those who come to the country recently, who might come to the United States illegally in the future. It doesn’t grant citizenship, or the right to stay here permanently or offer the same benefits that citizens receive – only Congress can do that.

President Obama has received criticism from the right saying that he’s granting amnesty. This is not amnesty because only 5 million undocumented immigrants are eligible to apply for these actions. They aren’t receiving citizenship, they have to pay a fine, pay taxes and go back to the line. If President Obama would’ve grant amnesty, he would’ve grant legal residency to the 11 million undocumented immigrants without paying a fine and not going back to the line. But, since not everybody is eligible for these actions, this isn’t amnesty.

What Should Speaker Boehner Be More Concern About?

What Should Speaker Boehner Be More Concern About?

Speaker John Boehner is filing a lawsuit against President Obama because he has used executive actions because House Republicans haven’t passed a single bill. President Obama is doing his job because House Republicans don’t want to do theirs.

Should Republican candidates be concern of the Tea Party candidates?

Should Republican candidates be concern of the Tea Party candidates?

After the surprising defeat of Eric Cantor against Tea Party candidate Dave Brat, many Americans have asked theirselves if some Republican candidates could lose during the midterm elections.

Here’s my new poll about Republican candidates being concern of the Tea Party candidates.

“It’s Not A Felony. It’s an Act Of Love.”

On Sunday April 6, 2014, former Florida governor Jeb Bush said in an interview that people who come to the United States illegally are looking for better opportunities to provide for their families who live in the home country. Bush said “Yes, they broke the law, but it’s not a felony. It’s an act of love, it’s an act of commitment to your family.” Also, he said that he will make a decision by the end of the year if he will run for President in 2016. If Jeb Bush decides to run for President in 2016, with this comments he might not win the GOP primary elections because conservative voters don’t see illegal immigration as an act of love, they see it as a felony. Bush would be asked repeatedly about his comments and he would have to answer appropriately in order to gain the trust of the conservative voters. One of the problems that he might face will be the other GOP candidates who will criticize him for his immigration remarks and policy. Now, one of the advantages that Jeb Bush has, is that he would have the support of the Hispanic voters especially in Florida and his wife Columba Garnica Gallo who’s from Leon, Guanajuato can play a big role for the Hispanic voters during the primary elections. Meanwhile, we have to wait until the end of the year to see if Bush decides to run for President 2016.

House Republicans Blocked GOP Immigration Proposal

Rep. Jeff Denham of California proposed for the second time his bill called the “Enlist Act,” which allows young children who were brought illegally to join the military and gain legal status. Many conservatives reacted to Rep. Denham’s proposal saying that it’s amnesty and they won’t support it. Rep. Mo Brooks from Alabama said “I don’t think it’s in Americans best interests from an economic standpoint to dramatically increase the job opportunities for illegal aliens who are competing against American citizens for those jobs.”

Denham has brought this proposal because he served in the U.S. Air Force and many in the Air Force were immigrants. But, when majority of House Republicans oppose the bill, it’s unlikely to be passed sooner or later. Early this year, Speaker John Boehner revealed a set of immigration reform principles but,the majority of the GOP members don’t want to debate or to vote on the issue before the midterms elections so, Speaker Boehner pulled back and said that immigration reform won’t pass this year because House Republicans don’t trust President Obama. Not voting before the midterms could mean that the GOP could lose the Senate and just have control of the House. Rep. Denham said that he will continue to push for the bill.

The United States vs. Serafin Zambada Ortiz: Motion Hearing / Trial Setting (1)

On March 21, 2014 Serafin Zambada appeared at the Federal Court for a  Motion Hearing / Trial Setting (1), it was to give a continuance hearing for the trial to begin on September 15, 2014 at 9:00am at the Federal Court. Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam L. Braverman who represents the United States said that the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) has 40 seizures inside and outside the U.S. meaning that they have 40 pieces of evidence that could be used during the trial. Attorney Braverman did not mentioned what type of evidence the United States has but some of the pieces could be the photos that Zambada posted on his Twitter account, which was the main reason why he was arrested in Arizona. Also, he mentioned that the United States has been investigating for approximately 8-10 months 125 phones that were wiretapped and more than 100,000 interceptions logged in 2 years of investigation by the DEA. Attorney Michael McDonnell, who’s the defendant’s (Zambada) attorney responded by requesting 90 days for a new Motion but Judge Sabraw denied it, he decided to set the new Motion on April 15.  Judge Sabraw declared the case “complex,” meaning that there will be longer deadlines.

Demonstrations In Venezuela

Dozens of protesters took out the streets of Venezuela to protest against President Nicolas Maduro. It was organized by the Opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez and caused 3 deaths, 23 were injured . Leopoldo Lopez said that the idea to go into the streets is to protest corruption, crime and the economy. The last few years, Venezuela has become one of the most dangerous countries in Latin America and in 2013, Venezuela had the lowest economic growth in Latin America with 2.3%, just below Mexico with 2.5%. Maduro argues that the opposition leader is trying to force him to step down with a coup plot but Leopoldo Lopez has responded that it’s not a coup, he seeks Maduro’s “Exit” as President. The banners that the protestors were using said “The Exit.”

Venezuelan authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Leopoldo Lopez with charges in conspiracy, terrorism and murder during the demonstrations but Lopez has denied the charges and said that he is expressing his right of assembly. Lopez and other opposition leaders have said they will continue to protest in streets regardless what President Maduro says or what the authorities do. Hundreds of students have been arrested but thousands of demonstrators remain in the streets to continue to protest.

Since Maduro took office in 2013, he has become more dictator than Chavez. In less than a year in office, he decided to have control over both Chambers meaning that he does not need the approval of both Chambers to pass a bill or any type of legislation during one year.  We still don’t know if Maduro will have control over both Chambers for one year or he will decide to have control for over than a year. If Chavez would’ve wanted to take control over both Chambers, he would’ve called for a special election just like he did in 2007 when he wanted to change the Constitution and lost, then did it again in 2009 and won. Under Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela has become less democratic and more tyrannic.

Gov. Christie In Denial

Gov. Christie spoke at his weekly radio program called “Ask the Governor,” where he kept denying having knowledge about the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, even when the former Port Authority David Wildstein said on a letter that Gov. Christie had knowledge about the closure on the GWB. Gov. Christie said that he found out about the lane closures when he read the Wall Street Journal but prior reading the Journal, he did not had knowledge about it. While Gov. Christie has been in denial, former Port Authority David Wildstein told the New York Times that there is evidence that Gov. Christie knew about the GWB closure lanes but that evidence has not been released, so no one knows if there is really evidence. Christie’s office responded immediately saying that “David Wildstein will do anything to save David Wildstein.” Gov. Christie had knowledge about the closures of the GWB but he is trying to save his political career as Governor and potential Presidential candidate in 2016. And, for how long can he keep his lie?

The Right Wing Avoiding Gov. Christie’s Scandal

Since the media began to talk about Gov. Christie’s scandal, the right wing has called it a distraction. According to Media Matters for America, CNN has mentioned Gov. Christie 38 times, MSNBC 44 times and Fox News only 3 times. Instead of talking about Gov. Christie, they have been attacking President Obama and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton with the Benghazi attacks. The reason why they are attacking President Obama and former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton is because they want to blame them for not avoiding the Benghazi attacks and they want to give Hilary Clinton a bad image before the Primary and Presidential Elections. Also, the right wing has other excuses to attack President Obama, for example, Senator Rand Paul said on Fox News that “The danger of majority rule to him sort of think, well the majority vote for me, now I’m the majority and I can do whatever I want and that there are no rules that restrain me, that would give us Jim Crow.” Jim Crow, seriously? So, according to Sen. Rand Paul, the President’s idea of governing gave us Jim Crow. It seems that Sen. Rand Paul doesn’t remember when in 2010 he told Rachel Maddow that he wanted to modify the discrimination laws. But, that’s not it, Rush Limbaugh said on his radio talk show that “President Obama ignores the Constitution and that makes him a dictator.” What Rush Limbaugh is talking about, is President Obama’s Executive Orders during his first term but here are the Executive Orders from the last three former GOP Presidents during their first term. Ronald Reagan 213, George H. W. Bush 166, George W. Bush 173; President Obama had only 147 (Source: The American Presidency Project). In 2013, the New York Times wrote an article saying that President Obama has had the fewest Executive Orders in over 100 years. http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2013/01/obama-executive-orders-guns.html. So, if President Obama is a dictator because he had 147 Executive Orders during his first term, George W. Bush, George H. W. Bush and Ronald Reagan are dictators as well? No matter for how long the media keeps talking about Gov. Christie’s scandal, the right wing will find a way to avoid talking about Gov. Christie and to find all the excuses they can to attack President Obama.
